The journey toward the best version of yourself – The Choice – Article 2
Change begins when you recognize where you are!
Choosing where you want to go is important. But a destination alone isn’t enough.
Before you make any changes, you need to recognize where you’re starting from.
Not to judge what you’ve done so far, but to sincerely understand the life you’re living.
You can’t plan a route if you don’t know where you are.
Stop before you go again
We’re often so focused on what we’d like to become that we forget to take a look at who we really are.
Let’s think about the person we’d like to be, the goals we want to achieve, and the life we envision for the future.
In the meantime, however, we keep going without asking ourselves whether our daily lives still reflect who we are.
Taking a break doesn’t mean wasting time.
It means creating the space needed to listen to one another.
Try asking yourself: Two people can choose the same path, but have very different desires.
- How do I feel about the life I’m living?
- What makes me feel good?
- What’s weighing me down?
- What do I keep accepting even though it no longer belongs to me?
- What part of myself am I neglecting?
You don’t have to find a solution right away.
Right now, you just need to allow yourself to see what’s there.
Observing without judging yourself
It can be hard to figure out where you stand because you might realize that some of your choices no longer reflect who you are.
You might realize that you’ve put off something important, that you’ve compromised too much, or that you’ve gone in a direction that no longer feels right to you.
That doesn’t mean you’ve done everything wrong.
Every choice belongs to the person you were at the moment you made it. What matters now is listening to the person you’ve become.
Looking at your reality honestly isn’t about criticizing the past. It’s about making more informed choices about the future.
Don’t judge what you see.
Admit it.
Welcome it.
That’s where change can begin.
You don’t have to change everything
When we realize that something is no longer making us feel good, we may feel the need to completely transform every aspect of our lives.
But real change doesn’t necessarily come from a huge decision. It often starts with a small, clear, and achievable choice.
It can help set a boundary.
It might be worth taking some time for yourself.
Maybe it’s time to stop putting off that conversation.
It’s okay to ask for help.
It may be a desire you’ve kept to yourself for far too long.
Don’t ask yourself how to transform your whole life in a single day.
Ask yourself:
What’s the first thing I feel like changing?
The first step has already been taken
Maybe you think the journey will only begin once you do something visible.
Actually, the first step has already been taken.
You began the moment you decided to stop, take an honest look at yourself, and stop ignoring your feelings.
Awareness is not passive waiting. It is the point at which you stop moving automatically and begin to choose your own direction.
You don’t need to know in advance what the entire journey will be like.
You just need to decide if you want to continue.
A choice to move forward
Take a few minutes and finish this sentence:
I’ll continue, starting with…
Don’t look for the most beautiful answer or the one you think you’re supposed to give. Write the most honest answer.
Giving your starting point a name makes the direction you’ve chosen clearer.
The journey doesn’t begin when everything is perfect.
It begins when you choose not to stay exactly where you are.
In our next session, we’ll build on this decision and take the next step together, one choice at a time.
