Mentioned as early as 315 BC by Theophrastus, it was studied in modern times by Brocante in 1808.
The name comes from Greek and means "gold glue," as it was used anciently in gold soldering.
Cleopatra wore it for its calming properties.
The Incas and other ancient civilizations used it in jewellery and decorations.
It was also used as a pigment for frescoes and ceramics.

Origin and Reservoirs
Chrysocolla is a rare copper ore found in various parts of the world, mainly in copper mines, but also in gold mines. The main deposits are found in the United States, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Australia, Congo, Israel, France and Scotland. The most valuable samples come from Chile, Congo, Russia and the USA.

It is a hydrated silicate of copper, with 2.5 Mohs hardness, so it is very soft.
